About Ladakh

Ladakh is not like anywhere else on earth. At 3,500m above sea level, the landscape is barren and impossibly beautiful — lunar valleys, turquoise lakes, ancient monasteries perched on impossibly steep ridge-lines. For Indians, it holds a special mystique: this is where the sky seems closest.

The crowds have grown in the last decade, but Ladakh's vastness absorbs them. Go in June–September when the roads are open and Pangong Tso shimmers under clear skies. The best part? No passport, no visa — just a flight to Leh and you're in one of the most spectacular landscapes on the planet.

FAQs

Common questions about Ladakh

How do I acclimatise to Ladakh's altitude? +
Acclimatisation is essential. We include a mandatory 2-night rest in Leh on arrival — no strenuous activity. Drink lots of water, avoid alcohol, and don't rush. Altitude sickness is real but preventable with a proper schedule. Our guides carry emergency oxygen.
Can I ride a bike in Ladakh? +
Yes — we have a dedicated bike expedition package (Royal Enfield or KTM). The Manali–Leh highway is one of the world's great road journeys. You should be an experienced rider and in good health.
Is Pangong Tso worth the trip from Leh? +
Absolutely. The 5-hour drive is extraordinary — you pass Changla Pass (5,360m, third highest motorable road in the world) before the lake appears. Stay overnight at the lakeside camps for sunrise — 134 km of the clearest blue-to-turquoise water you've ever seen.
What is the best monastery to visit? +
Thiksey Monastery (15km from Leh) is the most dramatic — 12 stories on a hillside. Hemis is the wealthiest and has a spectacular annual festival in June. Diskit Monastery in Nubra Valley has a 32-metre Maitreya Buddha you'll never forget.

What travellers say about Ladakh

APRIL 2026

"The Royal Enfield ride from Manali to Leh is the greatest journey of my life. 480 km of the most dramatic road on earth. TripAtGo's support vehicle and mechanic meant we never once felt stranded. Unforgettable."
