About Andaman Islands

The Andaman Islands are India's best-kept travel secret — 572 islands in the Bay of Bengal, 37 of which are inhabited, all surrounded by water so clear you can see the sea floor at 20 metres. The coral reefs here are among Asia's healthiest, and Radhanagar Beach on Havelock Island is consistently rated one of the best beaches in Asia.

The islands feel genuinely removed from mainland India — slower, quieter, and strikingly beautiful. There's no mobile data on most islands, which is either horrifying or liberating depending on your perspective. For snorkellers and scuba divers, the Andamans rival destinations that cost three times as much.

FAQs

Common questions about Andaman Islands

How do I get from Port Blair to Havelock Island? +
Government ferries run daily (₹1,000–1,500) but are often crowded and take 2–2.5 hours. Makruzz and Nautika private ferries are faster (1.5 hours, ~₹2,500–3,500) and more comfortable. We pre-book the best option for your dates.
Do I need to know how to dive to visit Andaman? +
Not at all. Snorkelling at Radhanagar and Elephant Beach gives you the highlights above 5 metres. But if you've ever wanted to try scuba diving, Andaman is the ideal place — clear water, warm temperatures, and certified PADI instructors at every resort.
Are the Andamans suitable for families with young children? +
Yes, especially for older children (7+). The water at Elephant Beach and Radhanagar is calm and clear. Cellular Jail's light-and-sound show is historically educational. Avoid the more remote islands for toddlers — the ferry crossings can be rough.

What travellers say about Andaman Islands

MARCH 2026

"Radhanagar Beach is the most beautiful beach in India and possibly Asia. The bioluminescent plankton at night — our entire kayak glowing blue — is something I can't adequately describe. TripAtGo's pick of hotels was spot on."
